Install Ubuntu 20.04 LTS

Ubuntu is an operating system based on the Linux kernel. Ubuntu released its first version in October 2004. Ubuntu itself is based on Debian. In this post, I will show on how to install Ubuntu 20.04 LTS.

The operating system can be download here.

Here the VM Steps:

  • CPU: 1 CPU & 2 Cores
  • RAM: 4 GB
  • Storage 25 GB
  • Network: 1x1Gb

Here the installation steps:

Load the Ubuntu 20.04 LTS ISO to the virtual machine.

Run the virtual machine.

The installation interface is ready. Click Install Ubuntu.

Select your prefer Keyboard Layout. Click Continue.

Choose the installation type and click Continue. I choose

Click Install Now. This will use entire disk for operating system.

Here the disk partition summary. Click Continue.

Select you location. Click Continue.

Complete the details and click Continue.

Wait until the installation complete.

The installation is complete. Click Restart Now.

Eject the ISO/DVD and press Enter.

The reboot process is complete. Select the user and login.

Great the installation is completed. Let’s continue with software update/upgrade.

Install NetVault Client On Windows Server

In the previous post, I share how to install the NetVault Backup Server and create a media target called Virtual Tape Library (VTL). I will protect the Domain Controller that I already created. Before I can backup the target client, I need to install the NetVault Client.

Steps:

  • Run the NetVault Client for Windows.
  • Set the language and click OK.
  • Install all the required Microsoft Visual C++. If the Windows already updated, the required software will not appear.
  • Click Next.
  • Click “I accept the agreement” and click Next.
  • Click Next.
  • Click Next.
  • I left the password section blank and click Next.
  • Review the details and click Next.
  • Wait until the installation finish.
  • The installation is completed. Click Finish.
  • Below show the NetVault Service on Client.

The NetVault Client is ready. Lets add the client to the NetVault Backup Server and protect it.

Install NetVault Backup Server 13.0 on Windows Server

Quest NetVault Backup Software is a set of data protection software. It can be used to protect data and software application in physical and virtual environments from central management interface. It support heterogenous environment such as Windows, *nix, VMware, Hyper-V, MSSQL, MySQL, Oracle, Sybase, NDMP, Exchange, DB2, and etc.

Network Setup:

  • Hostname: nvbu
  • IP Address: 192.168.0.200
  • Netmask: 255.255.255.0
  • Gateway: 192.168.0.1
  • DNS: 192.168.0.10

Steps:

  • Run the installer.
  • Set the language and click OK.
  • Install the required Microsoft Visual C++. If the Windows already updated, the required software will not appear.
  • Click Next.
  • Select “I accept the agreement” and click Next.
  • Click Next.
  • Click Next.
  • Set the password and click Next.
  • Click Next.
  • Set the password and click Next.
  • Review the information and click Next.
  • Wait until the installation complete.
  • Click Finish.
  • Run the Quest from Start Menu.
  • By default the admin username didn’t have password. Type username admin and click Sign In.
  • Below show the NetVault Backup Server Interface.

NetVault Backup Server is ready.

Install VMware Tools

VMware Tools contains additional driver to enhanced VM guest operating system. This will improve the performance between VM and host.

Steps:

  • Select the VM. Right Click > Install VMware Tools.
  • Open My Computer. Right Click as below and click Install.
  • Click Next.
  • Select Complete and click Next.
  • Click Install.
  • Wait until the installation complete.
  • Click Finish.
  • Click Yes to restart the system.

After the system restart. The Windows resolution is autofit to the host and the mouse cursor transition between VM and host is smooth.

Install Windows Server 2019

Windows Server 2019 is the latest version server operating system released by Microsoft on Oct 2, 2018 and the Extended Support until Jan 9, 2029. Product evaluation can be download here.

Steps:

  • Run the VM. Make sure the guest operating system ISO is loaded.
  • Press any key.
  • Click Next.
  • Click Install Now.
  • Select any Desktop Experience Version. Click Next.
  • Tick “I accept the license terms” and click Next.
  • Click Custom: Install Windows only
  • Select the drive and click Next.
  • Wait until the installation complete.
  • Set the password. Click Finish.
  • The VM with guest operating system Windows Server 2019 is ready.

Install VMware Workstation

For my lab I will using VMware Workstation. It is a hypervisor software that share the host resources to the Virtual Machine (VM). Multiple VMs with guest operating system like Windows 10, Windows Server 2019, Ubuntu Desktop, CentOS 7 and etc on the same host.

Steps:

  • Open web browser and search for VMware Workstation.
  • Click on Download VMware Workstation Pro.
  • Choose and Download the VMware Workstation Pro.
  • Once the download complete. Run the software.
  • Click Next.
  • Tick “I accept the terms…” and click Next.
  • Tick “Enhanced keyboard driver…” and left the rest as default. Click Next.
  • At User Experience Setting, click Next.
  • At Shortcuts, click Next.
  • Click Install.
  • Wait until the installation complete.
  • If have license, click License and install the key. If not click Finish.
  • Click Yes to restart computer. (Enhanced keyboard driver required to restart to take effect.)
  • Run the VMware Workstation. Here show the interface of VMware Workstation.

The VMware Workstation is ready.
